Juric Helping Breed Next Generation Of Young Talent

Sydney FC Women’s Head Coach, Ante Juric, is making a significant impact at Matraville Sports High School, one of Sydney FC’s Academy Schools.

As the school’s Director of Sport and Football Coach, Juric is passionate about helping young athletes grow both on and off the field.

“Working at Matraville as the Director of Sport and Football Coach has been extremely rewarding,” said Juric. “It has always been a passion of mine to guide and teach kids, helping them reach their best and strongest version of themselves. Adding football to this educational setting brings together two of my strongest passions.”

Ante Juric has coached Sydney FC to three Championships and three Premierships and is also Director Of Sport at Matraville Sports High.

Matraville Sports High is dedicated to nurturing student-athletes through its Talented Sports Program, which provides year-round training in football, rugby league, rugby sevens, netball, basketball, surfing, and skateboarding. As part of the Sydney FC Schools Academy, the football program benefits from elite coaching and a clear development pathway.

“At Matraville Sports High, I am lucky enough to be able to work under the Sydney FC Schools Academy banner, combining SFC with our Talented Sports Football Program,” Juric added. “This partnership with the school and me currently coaching at Sydney FC has a nice flow and offers students a great opportunity to progress in football as it gives them a visible pathway.”

Matraville Sports High will hold an Open Night on Thursday, 6th March, from 4-6pm. Trials for the Talented Sports Program will take place on Tuesday, 13th May, and Tuesday, 20th May, depending on the sport.

Endeavour Sports High School, another Sydney FC Academy School, is also providing a strong pathway for young footballers, with notable success stories including Hayden Matthews and Jake Girdwood-Reich, who both broke Sydney FC’s transfer record with moves to Portsmouth and St. Louis, respectively.

Both players were identified at Endeavour Sports High trials by Sydney FC’s Kelly Cross as U12s.

Endeavour Sports High continues to develop elite talent, with 23% of Sydney FC Academy players currently attending the school. Approximately 30% of the school’s male footballers now play in an A-League Academy, a figure that has grown from 12% in November 2022. The school won the prestigious Bill Turner Cup in 2023 and has sixteen boys selected for the U15-U16 Nationals in 2024.

The girls’ program at Endeavour is equally impressive, with Sydney FC Hall of Fame member Teresa Polias an ex-student and former pros Charlotte Young and Ange Hristodoulou on staff. Nine girls are in Sydney FC’s inaugural Female Development Squad, with many more represented in A-League Academies.

Endeavour Sports High Principal James Kozlowski highlighted the success of the school’s partnership with Sydney FC.

“Endeavour’s partnership with Sydney FC is producing a strong pathway for male and female student-athletes into elite football,” Kozlowski said. “We are ensuring that the students in our Sydney FC program are supported academically, with their wellbeing, and are given the best opportunity to excel on the football field.

“The values of Endeavour and Sydney FC align so well. We both want to develop our young people into good citizens who want to be the best version of themselves in all that they do.

“The partnership between Endeavour Sports High School and Sydney FC is uniquely placed to provide our students with an outstanding education while delivering an extraordinary environment for the development of their football talent.”

Endeavour Sports High will hold their trials later this year.
