After scoring his first goal for Sydney FC and opening up the club’s account for the season, Jamie Coyne’s wife gave birth to their first child on Tuesday. Now he’s hoping a win against Melbourne Heart will give him the perfect week.

Sydney FC defender Jamie Coyne is hoping to end a perfect week for him and his family with a win over Melbourne Heart on Saturday night.

The full back scored his first goal for the club in the 2-1 win over Adelaide last weekend, and secured the club-s first goal and win of the season in the process.

To follow that his wife gave birth to his first baby on Tuesday morning – a boy named Lucas – and both mother and child are doing fine.

“She-s a bit tired but everything went well and the baby-s healthy. I-m really happy, couldn-t be happier actually it-s been a good week.“

The new dad has had the chance to get his first night of fatherhood under his belt before heading to Melbourne.

“They came home last night. It was really good with our flight tomorrow to be there for the birth and to spend a couple of days at home before I fly out. It-s worked out really well.”

Sydney will be looking to add to their impressive away record of seven games undefeated when they head to AAMI Park, with Coyne hoping for more goals.

“I-m not really renown for scoring too many goals but the way we play here we encourage the full backs to get forward and hopefully I can pop up with a few more throughout the year.

“It was just nice to score the first goal and I think there was a bit of relief throughout the team.

“It looked like it was going to be another one of those days where we dominated all the chances and hit the woodwork and it looked like it wasn-t going to go in.”
