Harrison All Smiles Following Matildas Call Up

A smile is such a simple gesture but it’s one that can brighten up a day, and Sydney FC youngster Amy Harrison achieved just that as she joined fellow Sydney FC stars Alanna Kennedy and Sunny Franco at Sydney Children’s Hospital Under the Sea party day on Wednesday.

Dressed up as a pirate and touring the wards, Harrison said it was an eye opening experience meeting the children and signing countless posters, with the subsequent laughs bringing joy to her and the girls.

“It was eye opening, it was really nice to interact with the kids and seeing them smile just made your day,” she said.

“It was nice to give back. I think the highlight was seeing the boy set up with his Xbox and how happy he was even though he’d been in there for a while.

“There was a boy who had been in there for nine years straight, he was just so happy. If you can be like that and still be so happy there’s no reason why anyone else shouldn’t be.

“It’s extremely rewarding and it’s nice that we could actually make them laugh and see them light up when we gave them a poster.”

The girls visit comes off the back of the latest Westfield Matildas squad announcement, with Harrison called up and in line to earn her second Matildas cap.

Following her omission from the FIFA Women’s World Cup Squad, Harrison said she’s eager to stamp her mark on the team with a series of games planned during the Westfield Matildas tour of China.

“It’s always an amazing feeling and honour to play for your country and I just can’t wait to play games and be over in China,” she said.

“I think missing out on that World Cup team just made me want to work harder and made we realise a lot of things and put a lot of things into perspective.

“I’m not going to get there without working hard so it is a good time for me to really stamp my spot on there and I don’t really want to hear Staj [Head Coach Alen Stajcic] say you’re not coming back in again.

“I just want to work hard and if I play, give my best for the team, and if not just work hard at training and just give myself the best possible chance to do well.”
