New Sydney FC Head Coach Frank Farina says he-s keen to add some fresh faces to the Sky Blues playing roster, as he got down to business during his first hands-on day at the training pitch.

The double session will be followed by another one tomorrow and the former Socceroos Head Coach says it will be the shape of things to come.

“They-ve got to get used to the way I want to play and I think the extra sessions are about structure and what people-s roles are on the park,” he said.

“It-s not a punishment, it-s just normal working practice for me.

“Early on in the week we-ll do double sessions and towards the end of week we-ll taper off.”

Farina admits the pace of the A-League has changed since his last involvement three years ago, and says he-ll be looking at keeping the intensity high in training.

“The tempo of the game is very high from the first minute to the last minute and I think in the past we-ve let ourselves down in the latter stages of games, the last 15 or 20 minutes and we-ve got punished.

“Your levels of fitness have to be high and these sorts of sessions are where you are going to get that, by getting the heart rates up.”

The new boss also revealed he is hoping to strengthen the squad in the front and backline in the new year with “one or maybe two” new faces.

“I-d like to try and bring some players in during the January window, but it-s whether the players that I would like will be available. There are a lot of questions there, a lot of ifs, but would I like to? – then yes.”
