Five players at Sydney FC will be heading to Colombia in September for the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup with the Young Matildas.
Maddie Caspers, Indiana Dos Santos, Tahlia Franco and Shay Hollman will reconnect with the Green and Gold after being part of the squad who went to the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup in March earlier this year.
New Sydney FC signing Amber Luchhtmeijer will also join the Young Matildas in Colombia after a breakthrough season in the NSW NPL. Luchtmeijer currently leads the NSW NPL for goals with 23, five better than the nearest best.
The teenager signed her first professional contract last month and this tournament provides Luchtmeijer with the perfect opportunity to impress on the national stage.
Indi Dos Santos will head to Colombia with her sister and former Sky Blue Jynaya, becoming the first sisters to compete together in a FIFA World Cup tournament.
At the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup, Caspers, Dos Santos, Franco and Hollman made it through to the bronze medal match after playing through some testing conditions including rain, sun and even snow.
The tournament will run from the 1st of September 2024 with the final scheduled for the 23rd of September. All five players will return in time for the start of the Liberty A-League season on the 1st weekend of November.
