Fan loyalty has been key: Necevski

Sydney FC goalkeeper Ivan Necevski believes the Sky Blues luck has finally turned around and that his focus is now set on playing as many games as he can.

Since coming into the team, Necevski kept a clean sheet in Sydney FC-s first win of the season – a 3-0 victory against Perth Glory – before turning in a stellar performance in the Sky Blues 1-1 draw with Brisbane Roar on Saturday night at the Sydney Football Stadium.

“We came into this week-s game very positive, especially for me after keeping a clean sheet in Perth,” Necevski said. “Overall we had a really good performance. I was happy with how things turned out and happy with the point.”

“Our main focus going into the game was obviously to stay positive and take last week-s performance in Perth and hopefully keep a clean sheet, which wasn-t to be. But we learn from things like that and move on to Newcastle.”

Necevski said the support from the Sky Blues faithful and them staying loyal in difficult times has played a massive role in the team staying upbeat.

“The crowd that came on Saturday night, they-ve got our backs and they-ve always had our backs. They-re like our twelfth or thirteenth player on the field and it-s always good for them to turn up.

“They saw the hard result that we had in Perth last week getting a win and a lot of positives came out of Saturday-s game that we can take into Newcastle.”

Necevski said it is now up to him and his work ethic to keep his spot in the starting side.

“The spot is pretty much there for me to take it with both hands,” Necevski said.

“Ultimately it-s going to be up to me. I want to play the rest of the season and I want to play as many games as I can.”

“The spot-s there so I want to keep playing the rest of the year and hopefully go into the Champions League as well.”
