Donachie on facing former side, settling into Sydney

Sydney FC defender James Donachie is looking forward to facing Brisbane Roar in Wednesday’s FFA Cup quarter-final clash at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium.

Queensland-born Donachie started his career with the Roar spending five seasons there before moving south to Melbourne Victory.

Donachie made his starting debut in the league for Sydney FC in Sunday’s 2-1 win over Wellington on Sunday night.

“We were happy to get the win, we’ve had a few wins in the FFA Cup but we needed that win in the league to build some momentum.”

Donachie celebrates with Sydney FC teammates after scoring in the FFA Cup Round of 16 match against Macarthur Bulls FC.

“Steve (Corica) said that we just needed the win and no matter how it came it’s important that we got the three points in the end.”

“With wins comes a lot more positivity and momentum for the fans so we were thrilled for them.”

Donachie enjoyed his time at Brisbane Roar but is determined to inflict some pain on them come Wednesday and will put friendships on hold as Sydney FC look to reach the sem-finals.

“I had really good memories when I was there, to be honest, I haven’t seen too much on them this year but we’ll do our video and analysis work on them and then we’ll go out there to win at all costs.”

Away from football, Donachie is enjoying settling into life in Sydney.

“I’m loving it here, I obviously came here in lockdown but the weather here is nice, the team and everyone else here at the club has been very welcoming and we have a great culture here so I’m really enjoying it.”
