Sydney FC is very happy to announce its January Talent ID clinics will now have a dedicated goalkeeping program.

Coaches from the club’s High Performance Unit will conduct the 3-day courses between the 16th and 18th of January.

The first part of the day will be spent working with Sydney FC’s goalkeeping coach on technical aspects of being a goalkeeper, before the players return to their age groups to work on the tactical aspects of the job.

Goalkeepers who impress will be invited back for an extra day of training where Sydney FC’s specialist coaches can take a further look at players, with a view to further development.

Former AC Milan academy coach and Sydney FC’s current youth team goalkeeping coach Davide del Giovine will conduct the training sessions.

“The first priority is for the players to have fun,” he said.

“Then we hope to teach the students the basic skills and techniques which are fundamental to goalkeeping at all levels.”

Sydney’s first team goalkeeping coach is the former AC Milan and Socceroos gloveman Zeljko “Spider” Kalac. He believes players will be getting the best coaching around.

“We at Sydney FC are lucky to have someone like Davide on board as he is very enthusiastic about his work,” Spider commented.

“His knowledge of technique and the Italian style of goalkeeping is his biggest asset.

“For me Italian goalkeeping coaching is the best in the world and this is why we train this way,” he said.

The program is only available to keepers aged between 11 and 15 and costs $265.

All three days of coaching will be at Macquarie University Sports Fields in Macquarie Park starting from 1pm.
