Sydney FC Head Coach Steve Corica has called on his squad to take full advantage of their remaining AFC Champions League games as great preparation for the new A-League season.

The Sky Blues are still to face Shanghai SIPG and Yokohama F. Marinos in the group stage, and Corica believes those two games will hold the squad in good stead ahead of their A-League title defence kicking off on December 30th at ANZ Stadium.

“We’ve got two games we want to win,” Corica said.

“We’re working towards the A-League season now, these games are preseason games now for us to prepare the players to make sure they’re fit and ready for when we get back.

“When we get back we only have two weeks and then we start the season.

“This is preseason for us, I’m very happy with the way we’re playing but it’s just the results at the moment are not coming for us.

“We lost our main striker from last year and we haven’t replaced him yet so we’re looking for a striker,” he continued.

“The boys that are playing at the moment are doing well, working hard for the team, [Trent] Buhagiar scored last week and Kosta [Barbarouses] set up the goal.

“We’re creating opportunities and these two will score goals, it’s just making sure we keep doing that and not losing confidence because the team is playing well and we can keep improving.”

MATCH REPORT: Dominance Unrewarded In Narrow Defeat

The Sky Blues were dominant in their defeat against K League Champions Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors and Corica praised his squad’s display at Al Janoub Stadium in Qatar.

“I’m very proud of my team’s performance,” he said.

“I thought we were the better team, we created more of the chances and played some very good football.

“We just switched off one minute before half time but other than that we did everything right and stuck to the game plan.

“We’re disappointed not to get the three points out of that game.”

Sydney FC are in action again in Doha next Tuesday night against Chinese giants Shanghai SIPG.
