He came to the Harbour City with the reputation as one of the best young strikers in the country, highlighted by his match-winning finish in last season-s Grand Final for Newcastle, and ten games into his time with Sydney FC Mark Bridge is really starting to make his mark on the current Hyundai A-League competition.

After a steady start to his time in Sky Blue, Bridge has found the net twice in the last two games for Sydney, sending a warning to opposition defences tasked with marking the Olyroo striker in coming weeks.

“It-s always good as a striker to score goals but I-ve been happy with my performances this season,” he said. “I-ve been pretty consistent so as long as I keep that up the goals should continue to come.”

Bridge scored a cracking goal in last Saturday-s classic clash with the Central Coast but struggled to celebrate his success after the Mariners miraculous comeback.

“I was happy to score but I-m just disappointed that we couldn-t hang on and win the game,” the 22-year-old explained. “Of course you-re disappointed in yourselves after throwing away a three nil lead and the chance to go top of the table but it-s a short week, which is good for us, we-ll get a couple of sessions in and then try and make amends on Friday.”

Sydney will return to the SFS this weekend to play host to the Wellington Phoenix on Friday night, and Bridge is confident he and his team-mates will be back on top of their game.

“I think the boys are going to be raring to go this week, to get a result and go into the international break with three points and hopefully the competition lead.”

FC-s game against Wellington will kick off at 8pm at the Sydney Football Stadium, after the Sky Blues- Youth League friendly against a Tasmanian eleven.
