Sydney FC has received a big boost with the news that experienced defender Pascal Bosschaart has been cleared to make his comeback from an Achilles tendon injury in Saturday’s clash with West Sydney Wanderers.
Sydney FC has received a big boost with the news that experienced defender Pascal Bosschaart has been cleared to make his comeback from an Achilles tendon injury in Saturday-s clash with West Sydney Wanderers.
The Dutchman sustained the injury in the final match of the 2011/12 season in Wellington and will make his return on time after a long rehabilitation process during the off season.
“I-m on track, which is good and I-m looking forward to getting back on the field if I am selected,” Bosschaart said. “I played 30 minutes in a youth team game last week and I am ready to get back. It will be hard for me after seven months but I love a challenge.”
His return is timely for Sydney FC as the Sky Blues head to Parramatta Stadium to take on West Sydney in the first ever Sydney Derby.
“Derbies are always special, all over the world,” Bosschaart said. “Something special always happens in a derby and the Sydney Derby is even more special because there are a lot of former Sydney FC players at Western Sydney.
“It will be a good occasion and we will be giving it everything to make sure that Sydney FC wins the first derby.”
Bosschaart-s return comes as Sky Blues central defender Adam Griffiths heads to the physio room after sustaining a hamstring injury just before Newcastle scored its third goal last weekend. Griffiths was immediately replaced due to the injury.
Sydney FC returns to Parramatta Stadium for the 4th time in its history, having enjoyed three wins from three matches at the venue.
In 2006, Sydney FC defeated Indonesian side Persik Kediri 3-0 in an AFC Champions League match before recording back-to-back wins over Perth Glory in A-League matches in 2009/10 (3-2) and 2010/11 (2-0).
