Sydney FC defender Pedj Bojic has no qualms about facing his former club the Central Coast Mariners on Saturday (kick off 7:45pm) as he sets his eyes firmly on claiming top spot with the Sky Blues.
Bojic spent five years at the Mariners, winning the title with them, before joining Sydney FC at the start of this season.
“I came here to win not to lose,” Bojic said.
“I was flattered to have five years there and the success there was great. Now I-ve moved to Sydney and I-m looking forward to the challenge.
“It-s going to be interesting [returning to Gosford]. I-m sure a few emotions will creep in. There-s going to be a bit of banter on the field, I-m sure, but you have to shut it all out and just treat it like another game.
“Hopefully I get a standing ovation and no boos,” Bojic joked.
Bojic can see no reason why Sydney FC can-t take first place this season but knows that challenge starts now as he prepares to come up against Josh Rose, one of the toughest fullbacks in the league.
“Every team is equal,” Bojic said.
“That was our plan from the start [to take top spot]. We-re second on the table, why can-t we stay there and push further up the front.
“To come up against Josh Rose, I only did it a few times at training. It-s going to be a massive challenge. He-s a quality player and I-ve got to be on my toes with him.”
One of the driving forces behind the Sky Blues recent success is the fans and Bojic wants the squad to continue to be surrounded by supporters each week.
“I think the fans have been behind us the whole way,” he said.
“In recent years Sydney haven-t had real success but I think when they see this now, with 4 wins in a row and second on the table it shows a bit of positivity.
“The crowds are coming behind us and we want the biggest crowds around us.”
Sydney FC’s Summer Pack is available now. This pack includes 3 exciting matches against Central Coast Mariners on January 18, Adelaide United on February 8 and Perth Glory on February 15.
