German Sydney FC star Alexander Baumjohann is looking for more Sky Blue love in his first home #SydneyDerby against his former club, at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium.

Baumjohann joined the reigning Champions at the start of the 2019/2020 Hyundai A-League season and says there are no regrets heading into the clash on Friday night.

“Not everyone is happy that I left but I’ve also said this before that I don’t care about them and the most important thing to me is that our fans love me and that’s what I care about,” he said.

“[On opposing fans heckling] That’s normal when you change from one side to the other in the city but it’s been really fun, especially when we’ve had success on the pitch.

“I’ve said it 100 times before, it was so easy for me to join this club. All the guys are just nice people and made me feel at home after a short time.”

As Sydney FC sit atop the Hyundai A-League ladder, the Sky Blues have the chance to extend that lead out to 13 points on Friday night.

And Baumjohann admits the last #SydneyDerby loss was an impressive performance for the Sky Blues and is confident they can get the three points in this one.

“It was one of our best games, we had so many chances and we could have won. It’s hard to accept that it was the only game we lost,” he said.

“We are pretty confident now and we’ve worked really hard to get back into it, we’re in good form and we have a really good chance to win the game.

This weekend’s #SydneyDerby is the first ever to be played at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium and the 33-year-old isn’t fazed by the politics related to the clash.

“I played against them earlier in the season and it’s just a normal derby so we just want to win this game,” he said.

“Derby’s are the most important game for the fans and also for us, it’s not about me against the Wanderers. I think everyone is very excited and ready to play this game.”

Sydney FC are back in action this Friday 28th February in the #SydneyDerby at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium (kick off 8pm AEDT) brought to you by McDonalds.
