Academy find going tough against Spirit

Sydney FC Academy’s match against NWS Spirit FC at Christie Park was a tough contest, with the young Sky Blues displaying plenty of positive aspects despite falling to a 1-0 defeat on Saturday night.

Despite having more possession, Sydney FC failed to create enough clear-cut opportunities and ultimately were left disappointed on the night. However, there were plenty of positives to take from the game, with several young players shining on the field.

Zachery De Jesus, who turned 17 just two weeks ago, made his NPL debut coming on at right back. He became the fifth player of his age group to make his NPL debut this season, highlighting the Academy’s commitment to giving young players a chance to showcase their talent on the big stage.

Pavlesic racked up more minutes in goal

In addition to De Jesus, there was a couple of players from the Isuzu UTE A-League squad who received minutes including Adam Pavlesic, Aaron Gurd, and Alex Parsons who got more valuable minutes.

Earlier in the evening, the U20 Sydney FC team displayed their attacking prowess, winning 4-0 against Spirit. Ben Gibson, aged 19, was the star of the show, scoring a hat-trick and assisting Luka Smyth for the fourth goal. This result highlights the Academy’s strength in depth, with promising young talents coming through the ranks and shining on the field.

With the team continuing to develop and improve, the future looks bright for the Sky Blues as they maintain their spot in the upper half of the table.
