30 Days Until Welcome To Wrexham

There’s just 30 days to go until Sydney FC hosts global football sensation Wrexham AFC at Allianz Stadium in one of the most anticipated pre-season matches in recent memory.

The Sky Blues primed to test themselves against the English Championship club in front of a packed home crowd on Tuesday 15 July (7:30PM AEST).

Wrexham’s rise to global recognition has been driven by its ambitious rebuild under Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, with their story captivating fans worldwide through the Welcome to Wrexham series.

Sydney FC fans will have the chance to witness the excitement first hand and Captain Rhyan Grant says the match is shaping up as a major highlight of the pre-season.

“I’m excited to get back into it soon and preparing for a big season ahead. It’s going to be a great occasion to test ourselves against Championship opposition early on,” he said.

“Playing in front of a packed Allianz Stadium is always special, and this is the perfect way for us to get back into rhythm ahead of what’s shaping up as a huge season.

“I’m hoping it’ll be a night to remember.”

Ryan Reynolds now owns Wrexham AFC who are a Championship club.

Fans attending the match will be treated to an authentic taste of Wrexham off the pitch too, with The Turf Hotel – the iconic pub next to Wrexham’s Racecourse Ground – coming to life as a full pub pop-up in Sydney.

The Turf, made famous by the Welcome to Wrexham series, will be serving up plenty of drinks, alongside meet-and-greets with Wrexham players and special guests.

Adding to the atmosphere, Wayne Jones, the Turf’s much-loved publican and a fan-favourite from the docuseries, will be on-site to pour pints, swap stories, and bring an extra dose of Welsh charm to the festivities.

“It’s an absolute honour to bring a bit of Wrexham to the other side of the world,” he said.

“The Turf has always been more than just a pub – it’s the heartbeat of the club and the community – and now we get to share that with our fans in Australia.

“I’ll be there, pulling pints, swapping stories and soaking it all in. I can’t wait to meet everyone – just don’t ask me to try Vegemite!”

A dedicated Fan Zone will activate outside Allianz Stadium, featuring official Wrexham merchandise, interactive games, and appearances from Wrexham players and staff.
