During the off-season Sydney FC are looking at the league in numbers as we highlight the statistics of some of our key players throughout our record breaking 2014/15 Hyundai A-League season.

Leading the Sky Blues into a new era under Head Coach Graham Arnold, Captain Alex Brosque firmly cemented his position as a fan favourite with the Sky Blues faithful with a stand out Hyundai A-League 2014/15 season.

Brosque started all 27 games he played in, for a total of 2371 minutes of game time, only being substituted off on eight occasions throughout the Sky Blues run to the Hyundai A-League Finals Series.

The Australian Marquee proved lively in front of goal as he peppered opposing keepers with a total of 40 shots, 29 of which were on target, as he scored nine goals to finish as Sydney FC’s second highest goal scorer for the season.

In total, Brosque scored a total of five goals with his right foot, three with his left and one with his head to end the season with a conversion rate of a goal every 263.4 minutes.

Deployed as a winger early in the season before reverting to the number 10 role, Brosque held a passing accuracy of 86.5%, completing 596 out of the 689 passes he attempted. He created a total of 28 chances and earned three assists with his direct style of play.

When tasked with tracking back to assist in defence, the Sydney FC Captain made a substantial contribution. Brosque made 30 interceptions and 29 clearances while winning 38 of his 47 attempted tackles.

With rumours of an impending retirement circling, Brosque quashed those rumours as he said he looks forward to a further season with Sydney FC.

“I’ve spoken to [coach Graham Arnold] and a few people but I’m committed to this club, I’m committed to honouring my contract and I feel this season has been a good one,” he said.

“I’ve felt, particularly the second half of the season, I’ve contributed. I’m excited for the possibility of the [AFC] Champions League next year as well. That’s something I want to be a part of.

“I’m not thinking of retiring, no.”

Brosque is currently in camp with the Sky Blues on the Gold Coast as they prepare to face the Gold Coast Premier League All Stars at Pizzey Park on Thursday 13 August. Follow @SydneyFC on Twitter for match updates.
