When you-re the number two goalkeeper behind one of the best glovemen in the Hyundai A-League chances to impress can be few and far between and that-s the reality Ivan Necevski has faced since joining Sydney FC last season.
But with Clint Bolton sidelined last week with a neck injury Necevski lined up for just his second start for the Sky Blues and he didn-t waste the opportunity.
“It was really rewarding, I was happy with the way I played,” said the 28-year-old. “We went there (Perth) to take the 3 points and it didn-t turn out that way which was disappointing but I was happy to make the saves I that I did and I felt very confident going into the game.”
While his side went down 2-1 to Perth, the former Blacktown Demon was one of FC-s best against the Glory and he-s hoping he-ll get another chance to perform this Saturday against ladder-leaders, Melbourne.
“I-m really happy where I am at the moment,” he said. “I-m just trying to do what I can at training and I-m really looking forward this weekend, hopefully I will get a start again because I made my debut there at Telstra Dome when I was playing in Newcastle so it-s a good stomping ground for me.”
And after grabbing his chance against the Glory Necevski has his sights set on the Sydney Football Stadium.
“I want to put a couple of good performances back to back, a couple of games back to back,” the keeper explained.
“Hopefully I-ll get the chance on Saturday night to play again, and hopefully I can be there the week after against the Central Coast, especially in front of the Sydney fans. I haven-t played in front of the Sydney fans, it-s always been the away games that I-ve played in so it-ll be good to play in front of the home fans, especially the Cove.”
Necevski and his Sydney team-mates will be chasing top spot on the Hyundai A-League table when they take on the Victory in the most anticipated match of the season, on Saturday night at the Telstra Dome.
