On Friday night it-s the turn of Sydney-s senior men-s side and National Youth League, but on Saturday afternoon FC-s women will be the centre of attention when they complete a big weekend of battles with the Queensland Roar and attempt to retake top spot in the Westfield W-League.
This week-s top-of-the-table encounter is perhaps the most important match of the season so far and could go a long way to unveiling just who has the best credentials to claim the inaugural women-s title.
Sky Blues Coach Alen Stajcic says the Sydney ladies are very much prepared for a big game after a solid week at training.
“We want to make sure we keep our shape particularly in defence and not give away any cheap goals,” he said. “We know we-re going to have to work hard to score so we-ve addressed our finishing as well.”
Coming off a hard-fought and physical win last week over rivals, the Central Coast Mariners, Sydney believes it-s ready deliver against the raging Roar.
“Last week-s win was very important because we hadn-t (won) in a few weeks,” Stajcic explained. “It-s given us our confidence back and we need it for this week.”
With FC-s form back on track, Stajcic and his Sydney side are looking to build on last week-s win and set themselves up for a strong finish to the season.
The round 6 Westfield W-League contest will be battled out at Ballymore Stadium in Brisbane on Saturday afternoon, with live coverage on the ABC from 4pm.
