It’s been a whirl-wind five-months for Vedran Janjetovic with the 21-year-old Sydney FC gloveman not only performing impressively for the table-topping National Youth League team, but also enjoying the opportunity to learn from some of sport’s best.
Vedran Janjetovic could easily be forgiven if the last five-months seem a bit of a blur.
The former Sydney United goalkeeper has enjoyed a dream start with Sydney FC, not only performing impressively for the table-topping National Youth League team, but also having the invaluable opportunity to train alongside some of Australia’s finest ever glovemen.
With the likes of Mark Bosnich, John Filan and Clint Bolton taking the 21 year-old under their wings, Janjetovic has gone from strength-to-strength throughout the season, taking full-advantage of the years of national and international experience on offer from his mentors.
“It’s always exciting to train with the senior team, all the young blokes love it,” he said. “Every day you train with them you learn something new, picking up on all of their experience. With keepers like Bosnich, who played against the best in the world, John Filan and Clint Bolton, who I’ve always looked up to, I couldn’t ask for anything more.”
Conceding only four goals in his past five outings, Janjetovic has shown consistent improvement through the opening twelve rounds of the season – form the young Sky Blue is looking to build on as the competition heads towards the finals.
“I-m pretty happy with my own form,” Janjetovic said. “You always think you can do better, but I am really enjoying playing in the side at the moment.”
With the league beginning to heat up, the keeper is confident his side can continue its dominant start to the season and take the inaugural Youth League title.
“Things are going pretty well at the moment,” he said. “We have a few wins under our belt as well as an unlucky loss to Newcastle, but it’s better to get that out of the way now instead of later in the season. If we stick at it we are a good chance of (winning) both the minor premiership and the whole competition.”
Returning to the winners circle last week against local rivals, the Central Coast Mariners, the young custodian has no doubt the high-flying Sydney side can knock off the Perth Glory for a third-straight time this season when the two teams clash this weekend.
“We trained well this week so I’m confident we get the result,” he said. “We-ve beaten them before so why can’t we do it again?”
Janjetovic will look to claim his fourth clean sheet of the season when Sydney FC hosts its West Coast rivals from 10am this Saturday at Cromer Park in Dee Why.
