Four of our 2010 W-League Champs will team up with the Sydney Roosters to celebrate women in sport and raise awareness for Ovarian Cancer Australia on Saturday night.
Four players from Sydney FC-s 2010 Westfield W-League Championship side will be teaming up with the Sydney Roosters this Saturday night to celebrate women in sport and to raise awareness for Ovarian Cancer Australia.
Three of the girls – Kylie Ledbrook, Leena Khamis and Kyah Simon were involved in the Matildas- historic Asian Cup winning side that defeated Korea DPR 5-4 on penalties last Sunday night.
The Sky Blues Ledbrook, Khamis, Simon and Danielle Brogan will join other female athletes on the pitch at the SFS during the half-time interval for the Roosters- NRL match against the Cronulla Sharks at the Sydney Football Stadium.
The girls will then form the numbers representing how many Australian women have died from Ovarian Cancer, before releasing teal-coloured balloons in honour of these women.
Sydney FC and Matildas star Kyah Simon, who successfully converted the decisive penalty during the Asian Cup final, said that events such as this go a long way to raising much needed awareness.
“It is things like this that have the potential to make a real difference,” Simon said. “This is a great initiative by the Roosters, Sydney FC and all the other sports to be involved. We are looking forward to getting out there on Saturday night and supporting this.”
“Ovarian Cancer is a terrible disease that affects many Australian families and if this is a way that I can help, then I-m all for it. We-re also there on the night to celebrate Women in Sport, which is also really important to us.
“I think our success both with Sydney FC and the Matildas shows that anything is possible for all women in Australia.”
The match will kick-off at 7.30pm this Saturday night June 5 at the Sydney Football Stadium.
