Despite a difficult start to the campaign, Lavicka is under no illusions that his young side are capable of producing much improved performances.
“This team is able to play good football but we need to show this and get the good results. The main thing is confidence; if we have a lot of confidence then we-ll have good players. We have a young squad that are still waiting for that first victory, but we travel to Wellington with a real desire to win.”
The Sky Blues are still without Alex Brosque (ankle) and captain Terry Mcflynn (hamstring) and could be hit with the absence of playmaker Nicky Carle who is suffering from a foot injury.
“There are question marks over Nicky Carle – he has a foot injury. He wants to play because he-s a leader and wants to help the team to better results, but he needs time for recovery and to be 100% ready and fit. We-ll make a decision before we travel”, Lavicka said.
The Phoenix are unbeaten in 21 games at Westpac Stadium and Lavicka has threatened changes as he looks to end the Kiwi-s formidable streak and rejuvenate Sydney-s poor start to the season.
“We-ll be considering some changes, depending on who-s available to play. Bruno Cazarine showed a couple of good things [against Adelaide] in a tough game and we hope he-ll follow up his performance this weekend. We know he have had troubles in this early period but we would really like to change the results.”
