Sydney FC National Youth League midfielder Jared Lum says his side is primed to continue its strong start to the 2010/11 season in Saturday-s match against Perth Glory at WIN Stadium in Wollongong (12:45pm kick-off) and that a recent three week stint without a match won-t affect them.
Steve Corica-s side has bagged back-to-back wins in their last two matches but strangely haven-t played for three weeks due to the bye and the postponement of their game against the Newcastle Jets which was scheduled for Sunday 7 November.
Lum said his young team was bursting to hit the WIN Stadium pitch and make it two wins from two games against Perth this season. The Young Sky Blues defeated the Glory 2-0 at 6PR Stadium on Saturday 23 October.
“The boys are buzzing. Not many footballers like having a lay off this long so we-re all pretty excited to go down to Wollongong and play and hopefully come out with a win,” Lum said.
“The first four games have been good. We-ve been slowly building up to a few wins and now we-ve gotten into a rhythm because we-ve been training together a lot more. Now that we-ve had the last two weeks off, the next couple of games should be interesting.”
After starting the season with two draws and two losses, Corica-s side first downed the Glory before thumping the previously undefeated Brisbane Roar 4-1 on Sunday 31 October at Campbelltown Stadium to start there run.
Lum, as well as teammates Joel Chianese, Blake Powell and Dimitri Petratos, have been in stellar form for Sydney FC and despite Petratos- elevation to the A-League team, the Young Sky Blues have been regularly bolstered by the likes of Matt Jurman, Antony Golec and Terry Antonis.
The highly anticipated Youth league match forms part of the first ever Sydney FC double-header, with Sydney FC-s Women-s League facing Adelaide at 3pm.
Although confident of getting their third win of the season on Saturday, Lum said they are wary of a talented Perth Glory side.
“They-re a good side. They finished in the top half of the table last year so it should be a competitive match.”
Lum, recruited from the Marconi Stallions, said that the influence of the teams coaching staff on his game was immeasurable.
“I-ve been changed from a midfielder to a winger and it all depends really on what first team players come back to, and where Steve wants to utilize me. I-m happy playing anywhere on the midfield really.”
