- The Double Header
Saturday’s match will feature both the A-League Men’s and Women’s sides in action at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium. It’s a fantastic opportunity to come and watch two fantastic football sides in action after Sydney FC were recently crowned Australasia’s best sporting team for 2021. The Women’s game kicks off 5.05pm with the match set to feature Chilean international Maria Rojas for the first time in Sky Blue. Ante Juric’s side will be heavily fancied heading into this clash and with plenty of attacking options, the game is likely to produce goals.
- Returning Matildas
Ante Juric’s side will be bolstered by returning Matildas trio Remy Siemsen, Charlize Rule and Jessika Nash after they recently feature for the Matildas in their double header against the USA Women’s team. No doubt the experience from the two week camp will benefit the young trio as they look to kick-off their campaign with a win in front of a home crowd. Paige Satchell and Maria Rojas will have been ruled out through new three day quarantine laws however they will be ones to watch in future after Paige scored a fantastic goal against South Korea for New Zealand during the week.
- Returning calvary
Steve Corica and his staff have suffered a number of injuries recently however the head coach illuded to journalists in his post-match press conference against the Macarthur Bulls that a number of players could return against the Jets this week. It’s believed that new signing James Donachie could feature for Sydney FC for the first time while winger Kosta Barbarouses is in-line to play his first game of the season. Bobo is also rumoured to be in contention however this week may come as a game too soon for the Brazilian.
- New-look Jets
The Jets have a fresh look to their squad this season under new coach Arthur Papas. Papas previously spent time with Ange Postecoglou at Yokohama F. Marinos in the J-League as an assistant coach. Papas has brought in a number of players with the likes of Daniel Penha, Savvas Siatravanis, Olivier Boumal, and Beka Mikeltadze joining the Novocastrian side. The Jets looked dangerous against the Wanderers and were unlucky to not come away with the three points in an enthralling 2-2 draw and no doubt Steve Corica’s side will do their homework as they look to register a win in front of a home crowd.
