The Sydney FC Youth Team will pick up some valuable international experience this week after the Sky Blues accepted an invitation to take part in the Vietnam Youth Cup 2012 in Pleiku City, Vietnam.
Brian Dene-s squad will take on the Malaysian and Laos U21 national teams in the round robin tournament, which also includes the U21 national teams of Vietnam, Singapore and Thailand.
Sydney FC takes on Laos U21 national team tonight (10.00pm Sydney time) before backing up to play the Malaysian U21 national team on Wednesday night.
The top two teams from each group progress to the semi-finals, to be played on Friday night, with the final and 3rd/4th play-off matches set down for Sunday evening.
The tournament is a fantastic opportunity for the Sydney FC team to gel before the start of the 2012/13 National Youth League and continue to spread the Sydney FC brand through Asia.
“This is a tremendous pre-season opportunity for the boys and also for Sydney FC to play in such a well organised youth tournament,” Dene said from Vietnam. “There were 10,000 people at the opening ceremony on Saturday when the first matches were played and this will be a great experience for the players.
“It comes at the perfect time for our team as we are about to start the NYL season and it will be very interesting to see how we go against some of the best 21 year-old in the Asian region. We have a young side but I know they will do themselves and Sydney FC proud.”
