Sydney FC Head Coach Frank Farina says he is quietly confident marquee men Alessandro Del Piero and Brett Emerton will return to face Brisbane Roar at Allianz Stadium on Boxing Day.
The pair were left out of the weekend trip to New Zealand to play Wellington Phoenix as a precaution but Farina is upbeat after both came through this morning-s training session.
“We-ll make a decision tomorrow as to whether they will be available,” he said.
“I don-t think 24 hours will make a big different but I-m quietly confident that they might be there.”
Top of the table Brisbane Roar are coming off a rare home defeat having lost 2-0 to the Newcastle Jets but Farina isn-t reading anything into that.
“Every week it-s tough irrespective of who you play in the competition,” he continued.
“You-ve got to turn upon the day and match them for everything, effort included. It-s a tough ask but it-s the same every week.”
And Farina called for Sky Blues Members and fans to turn out again in big numbers.
“Our supporters have been great this year. It-s Boxing Day, a holiday, we-re playing a very good side. Hopefully they get out in numbers and support the team and hopefully we can deliver what they want.”
