Sydney FC defender Ben Garuccio is calling on the Sky Blues to make Allianz Stadium a fortress when they host Central Coast Mariners on Friday night.
The left-back believes his side is building nicely after the opening three match weeks and is confident they can turn some promising performances into three points in front of their home supporters.
“We need to make Allianz a tough place to come for everyone. We want to make it a fortress, so winning games at home is imperative,” Garuccio said.
“We were unlucky last week not to come away with something out of the game, but the main thing is making Allianz an absolute fortress this season.”
Sky Blues Ready for Mariners Challenge
Garuccio expects a dangerous test against a youthful Mariners outfit but believes Sydney FC have plenty of reasons to be confident heading into the encounter.
The two sides met during pre-season with the Sky Blues running out 2-0 winners thanks to goals from Al Hassan Toure & Gabriel Popovic, although Garuccio knows Friday night’s contest will be a different challenge with points on the line.

“They’ve got a youthful team, but I think we’re nice and confident going into the game,” he said.
“We’ve come on a lot since pre-season. Now it’s playing for points, it’s a completely different game, but we’re at home and we’ve got to be confident.”
With a break in the fixture schedule approaching, Garuccio says the Sky Blues are determined to finish this stretch on a high before the international break.
“It’s a perfect game for us, Friday night at home. We want to get three points and hopefully go into that little patch of not too many games in a good position.”

Plenty of Firepower Up Front
Garuccio has been impressed by the attacking quality in front of him, praising the Sky Blues’ wide options and the threat they provide in one-on-one situations.
“Our wingers are unbelievable in this team. For me, it’s quite easy – try and get those boys the ball and let them show their quality because they’re all so good one-v-one and they can all be dangerous,” he said.
He also highlighted the contribution of Al Hassan TourĂ© and the work rate of Sydney FC’s attacking options, while welcoming the return of Jacob Farrell to training.

“There’s so much X-factor. It’s honestly amazing when you’ve got those players in front of you. You learn really quickly just to get them the ball and they show their quality.”
Garuccio is also looking forward to another Friday night atmosphere at Allianz Stadium, encouraging Sky Blue supporters to get behind the team.
“Friday night games are always a good atmosphere. It’s a perfect time to get down to Allianz – the perfect way to start the weekend, hopefully with three points and a nice spectacle for the fans.”
