Oriola Sunday Embraces The Pressure

New young forward Oriola Sunday is embracing the rising pressure as Sydney FC’s newest signing in anticipation of his first match wearing Sky Blue.

An exciting addition to the team’s attack, the new signing has commenced his season-long loan to Sydney FC and has the chance to be named in the squad for Tuesday night’s Quarter-Finals match away to SD Raiders.

After living in Japan for the past eight years, the 23 year-old is excited to experience Australian culture and looks forward to “getting to meet people for the first time outside of Japan.”

In his short time in Sydney so far, Sunday has been warmly welcomed into the Sky Blues and is eager to learn from Head Coach Patrick Kisnorbo.

“As a person there’s so many things I’m going to learn from him, and as a player there’s so many things I’m going to learn from him on the pitch.”

Sunday is embracing the mounting pressure to perform well, using it to motivate him in his strive for achieving great things with the club, and assisting in getting the team to great heights.

“Of course I feel pressure, but as a player, I want to grow,” he said.

“I think the pressure is going to work for me because it’s going to motivate me to be able to do my best.

“I have to embrace the pressure because if I don’t, when I get to a bigger stage, it’s going to be a problem for me.”

Signing onto the team as a season-long loan from Japanese club RB Ōmiya, Sunday is staying focused on adapting to a new team and the value that he can bring to Sydney FC, rather than looking too far into his possible future with the Sky Blues.

“You can’t really tell the future, you just have to wait for when it comes,” he said.

Sunday is highly rated by RB Omiya

If Coach Kisnorbo wants him to play in tomorrow night’s quarter-final against the Southern Districts Raiders, he’ll be ready.
