Sydney FC Academy graduate Joe Lacey has been selected in the Wales Under-19 squad for the upcoming UEFA European Under-19 Championship, which will be hosted in Wales later this month.
The talented young midfielder has been rewarded for his impressive development with a place in Chris Gunter’s squad as Cymru prepare to take on some of Europe’s strongest nations on home soil. Lacey was also included in Wales’ recent pre-tournament friendly squad.
The UEFA Under-19 Championship will run from 28 June to 11 July, with Wales making their debut at the tournament finals after qualifying automatically as hosts.

Drawn in a challenging Group A, Wales will face Spain, Germany and Denmark as they look to progress to the knockout stages.
Lacey’s selection continues Sydney FC’s proud tradition of developing young players capable of performing on the international stage. The midfielder has progressed through the Sky Blues’ Academy pathway and will now have the opportunity to test himself against some of the best young talent in Europe.
The tournament also serves as UEFA’s qualification pathway for the 2027 FIFA Under-20 World Cup, adding further significance to the competition.
