Talay excited to finally use home advantage

Ufuk Talay speaks to the press ahead of our next match against Western United.

This Saturday, Sydney FC return home at 5PM when they take on Western United.

Ahead of the game, Ufuk Talay is keen to get back to Allianz Stadium for our second offical home game.

“The Unite Round was the Unite Round.

“We ended up playing at Allianz, but this is our proper second home game,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to being back in front of our fans.”

Talay reflected on the last game against the Central Coast where his side was caught out defensively, despite having majority of possession.

He lamented on his sides’ play side and how it is a risk versus reward strategy.

“I think sometimes we’ll put ourselves in those positions and sometimes the way that we set up and the way that we play, but we know the way that we want to play.

“Sometimes we give opportunities in certain ways within the game. I think we need to deal with those those moments a lot better. Even against Central Coast, it’s not like we got played through.”

“There were two moments where we don’t win a challenge in the box and we lose a player in the box and the player scores.

“So, you know, and overall still we have a lot of possession with 10 men.”

Talay gave some praise for his number 9 and Douglas Costa.

“Yeah, Patrick’s going well and is in form.”

“We brought him (Klimala) in to score goals and he’s definitely scoring goals for us.”

Looking back on last week, Talay also commented on Douglas Costa’s playing minutes. He came off due to injury prevention.

“Yeah, look, definitely he’s (Costa) a very important player for us in the way that we play and I think he’s got the attributes to assist and score goals. Was there any point of actually keeping him on because still he’s still not fully 100% returning from injury?”

This weekend will be an exciting match-up as Talay has been impressed with Western United’s football this season.

“They try to build up and play through the line, so I think they’ve been quite entertaining and quite exciting.”

“I think they’ve been very good this season. They’ve played some really good football under Johnny Aloisi.”
