Juric – Performance was another level

Sydney FC Women’s team put on a brilliant performance on Sunday afternoon against reigning Premiers Melbourne City but were unable to take all three points.

In the first half, the Victorians could barely get out of their half and no team has really been able to get close to them this season having already had three matches in Asia and sitting unbeaten after seven matches in all compeitions.

With this in mind, Head Coach Ante Juric was thrilled with the way that his side went about the match.

“It’s always going to be tough playing the Premiers but we played exceptionally well, another day we would have won.”

“If we play like this every week we will be very close to Premiers,” Juric said.

“Again not disappointed with the draw because the way we played was exceptional. We deserved to win. The performance and effort was another level.”

Before this match, the Sky Blues were sitting in the bottom half of the table having only picked up three points from their opening three matches.

Despite all the noise around Sydney FC struggling, Juric put those rumours to bed.

“For those who know, we’ve not had a good start for the last five years and we always end up somewhere towards the top. This is no different.

“You don’t win Championships in first three rounds, four rounds. Last year we were mid-table during the season.

“We’ve been slow starters for a long time. So it always takes time,” he said.

Juric also gave praise to goal-scorer, Mackenzie Hawkesby, who he feels would be deserving of a Matildas call-up after she missed out on the extended 34 player squad that was announced last week.

With injuries to a few players called up, he believes that his number 15 is deserving of her maiden cap.

“That’s down to the coaches, but I would highly consider her.

“She is one of the best players in the league,” he added.

“She would do well in the Matildas if she gets the call-up. She’s got more in her. She can do more and I’d love to see her there.”

Sydney FC will now rest during the international break before heading to Melbourne to take on Western United on Sunday 8th December.
