Kyah Simon injury update

Kyah Simon speaks at half time of Saturday's Sydney Derby

Sydney FC and CommBank Matildas star Kyah Simon is hoping to return from injury before the end of the year as she provided an update on her fitness.

Simon is back at Sydney FC after seven years away but the 111-time Australia international is still waiting to make an appearance this season due to a calf injury.

The 33-year-old watched from the stands as the two-time reigning Ninja A-League champions edged Western Sydney Wanderers 1-0 in Saturday’s Sydney Derby, having also also missed the defeats to Central Coast Mariners and Brisbane Roar.

Simon was asked the “burning question” on Saturday – when will she return to the pitch?

“I’m doing alright. In a rehab for my calf at the moment,” she told Network 10 at half-time of the clash.

“It’s been a little bit frustrating lately with a bit of a setback.

“It’s hard to put a timeframe on it. It’s just a week-by-week (situation). I think every time I’ve been in a rehab previously, when I’ve put a timeframe on it, you add extra stress and pressure when rehab is already stressful and things are heightened.

“I’m hoping I can get back on the park. I’m working hard week in, week out. I just want to be able to get back out on the park and help the girls out, and contribute to the team.”

When quizzed on whether she would return before the end of the year, Simon replied: “Yes, that’s the aim.”
