Sydney FC Re-Sign Championship Winner Lucy Johnson

Sydney FC has re-signed Championship-winning midfielder Lucy Johnson for the A-League Women’s 2024-25 season.

Johnson, a key figure in last season’s title-winning squad, is set to return as the Sky Blues aim to defend their crown and continue their dominance in Australian women’s football.

The 25-year-old who joined Sydney FC last season, made an impact in the midfield helping to control the tempo of the game, create scoring opportunities, and contribute defensively.

Her work rate, vision, and commitment played a big part in the squad’s successes, and her return is a welcome boost ahead of another competitive season.

Johnson was part of the Sydney FC squad which won the Championship at AAMI Park last season.

Sydney FC Head Coach Ante Juric spoke highly of Johnson and what she will bring to the squad.

“We are extremely happy to have Lucy back for another season with Sydney FC,” he said.

“Unfortunately, last season injury impacted her season, however with an injury free season we expect Lucy to have a fantastic campaign on the park, as she’s a dynamic midfielder who gives us great balance and versatility in the middle of the park.

“She is an intelligent player and she has the ability to cover ground and contribute at both ends of the pitch, which will be important to how we play.

Johnson was unlucky with injury affecting her campaign last season

Johnson revealed her excitement about returning to Sydney FC and her ambitions for the upcoming season.

“I’m delighted to re-sign with Sydney FC for another season,” she said.

“Last year was such an incredible experience and being part of a team that won the Championship was a dream come true.

“It helped me grow a lot as a player, and I’m looking forward to building on that this season.

“My goal is to help the team defend our title and hopefully add more trophies to the cabinet.

“We have an amazing squad and coaching staff, and I can’t wait to get back out there and give my all again for the club and the fans.”

Johnson will wear the number 21 shirt.
