Anthony Caceres has assured fans that he is on track to be in contention to play in Sydney FC’s fixture against Adelaide United in Unite Round.
Caceres injured his right ankle against Wellington Phoenix after he tripped over an opposition player, and he has since been in rehab.
“[The ankle] is going well. It’s not too fun being in rehab and not being with the team, but I’m on track. My symptoms are getting better, and we are testing it day by day to see how I go, and hopefully, I’ll be able to play the next game.
“I’ve done a fair bit of work on the pitch, kept the fitness up and cannot wait to join the team again”, Caceres said.
The midfielder got a similar injury when playing for Melbourne City in 2016.
He explained, “I had a similar injury in the past when I was younger, and it brought back memories of that, but we have a very capable medical team here guiding me through the process of recovery, and thanks to them, I’ll be back, on my feet as soon as possible.”
Caceres also said that he is excited about the possibility of playing in the Unite Round, considering the Sky Blues have three consecutive wins under their belt.
“We got three in a row now. It’s about getting consistency, and we’re really starting to grasp the ideas Uffie presented.
“[Unite Round] is different to anything I’ve ever seen in football. I’m sure it will bring people together and hopefully introduce people that aren’t too familiar with our game to come along to watch and see the real quality this league has.”
The 31-year-old has played on nine occasions this Izuzu-UTE A-League season and scored twice in Sydney FC’s victorious Australia Cup campaign.
