Mackenzie Hawkesby has had a quick resumption to life in Sky Blue after re-joining from Brighton in the WSL and the games continue to come thick and fast for the 23-year-old.
The non-stop running midfielder’s signing was announced last Friday and she played 90 minutes against the Phoenix that day before backing it up on Wednesday night against Canberra United. The games don’t stop there though with the Sky Blues travelling to face the Central Coast Mariners on Sunday afternoon in Gosford.
For Hawkesby though, she is just happy to be home.
“It feels like I’ve never been away to be honest.
“It feels great to be playing with the girls that I’ve known for such a long time and the new girls I feel like I’m forming good connections with already,” she said.
“Ante has been really supportive of me coming back and I feel like I am in a good place at the moment, building my fitness back up and getting better and better, but I’m still not 100{3302a4a97df51ab71377f818b10857871066f471bffc8f5d55c900040a563c05}, but every game I am getting better.”
Hawkesby provided an assist for Aideen Keane on Wednesday night in a 1-1 draw with Canberra and she sees signs that the goals are coming.
“It feels good to be playing football again and the body feels good.
“I think we are in a good place at the moment, obviously the injuries aren’t the best but the young ones that have come in have done really well,” Mackenzie said.
“We just have to keep moving forward as we have a lot more matches coming up in January.”
Move forward they will, with a quick turnaround for the Sky Blues as they take on the new team, Central Coast Mariners on Sunday afternoon at Industree Group Stadium.
“The stadium looks unreal and obviously three games in a week is tough but we’re up for it.
“We have the squad to back it up again and hopefully on Sunday we can put away some goals,” she concluded.
