After words were said between former team-mates Steve Corica and Marko Rudan at full time of the 33rd Sydney Derby, the Sky Blue Head Coach was quick to give his opinion of events following the 1-0 win at CommBank Stadium.
“It’s a Derby mate, it’s what it’s about,” Corica said.
The pair exchanged heated words before parting ways, each with their own version of events.
“He was just a little bit frustrated with their performance and their results. We took it on the chin when we lost at our home ground and I think he’s being a bit of a sore loser tonight.
“You can celebrate, but do it with class.”
Aside from the touchline words, overall the Sydney FC Head Coach Steve Corica was full of praise for his team following their hard-fought 1-0 victory over the Wanderers. The win was the Sky Blues’ third consecutive victory and Coach Corica was thrilled with the performance of his side.
“A fantastic first 25 minutes, played them off the park,” Coach Corica said. “I think the shots were about even but the most pleasing thing for me is the clean sheet and the fact we defended well.”
With the sole goal of the contest coming from the boot of Max Burgess, Head Coach Corica was quick to praise the midfielder. “Yeah, he’s a clever player, very technical player as well. He can score those goals as well. He’s a very talented player and I think he can score more goals.”
Despite the win, Coach Corica was cautious not to get too carried away, especially with the injury to Adam Le Fondre, who limped off at the end of the first half.
“He felt something with his hamstring, so we will have to see during the week how bad it is.
“Adam has been going really well, scoring goals and feeling great so not good, but we’ll assess during the week.”
Overall, Coach Corica was pleased with his team’s performance and their progress in recent weeks.
“That’s three in a row now and we keep moving forward. I don’t want to get too carried away with it, but you know, they’re on the right track,” he said.
Steve Corica and Sydney FC’s next challenge comes in the form of Brisbane Roar at Allianz Stadium next Saturday afternoon and three points are vital to continue the momentum.
