Corica On Mariners Challenge

Steve Corica has acknowledged his players must be “ready to fight” as they look for back-to-back wins when Central Coast Mariners come to Allianz Stadium.

The Sky Blues are fresh from a hard-fought win over Melbourne Victory, and Corica is confident they can carry that momentum into Saturday’s clash.

The Sydney FC Head Coach is under no illusions as to the task at hand, and knows that his team must be prepared for a physical encounter.

“We can build on the win over Victory. We’ve got a tough game against Central Coast Mariners and we need to be ready for them,” said Corica.

“We have to be ready to fight because they’re a team that will get stuck in and be strong defensively, and you need to try and win every ball against them.

“They’ve got a very lively front four so we have to be ready for that, defensively. We have to be nice and structured and working hard for each other.”

Despite the challenge posed by the Mariners’ front line, Corica is also keen to exploit any weaknesses in their defence.

“Because they do have a lot of bodies getting forward, we can also counter attack them and show our speed and agility going forward as well,” he said.

The Key Battles When Sydney FC Face Mariners

He also warned that the Mariners are a team that will keep battling until the final whistle.

“They will keep going until the end, so we know what to expect from them,” said Corica. “They’re a good team, they’re scoring a lot of goals and we have to be ready for what they throw at us.”
