Sydney FC will become the first professional sports club in the country to lift a domestic trophy since the devastating coronavirus impact on Australian sport.

The Sky Blues will be presented with the Hyundai A-League Premiers Plate following their final game of the regular season against Western United at Leichhardt Oval tomorrow night (5pm kick off).

Sydney FC Chief Executive Officer Danny Townsend says the significance of the presentation should not be lost.

“This virus has affected all sports and had a terrible impact on society in general.  There were times when we thought this moment wouldn’t come,” he said.

“However, it is a huge testament to everyone who works in the Hyundai A-League and to the players and staff of every club that we have returned and made this possible.

“When our captain Alex Wilkinson lifts the Premiers Plate tomorrow night it will be just reward for the hard work and sacrifices made by everyone at our club and within our game.

“It is a significant moment and shows the strength of the football family pulling together, and our refusal to let the situation overwhelm us.”

Sydney FC Members and fans will be in socially distant attendance to witness the presentation, which will be in keeping with government Covid-19 guidelines and FFA biosecurity protocols.

The Premiers Plate win is a record 4th for Sydney FC surpassing the three titles won by Melbourne Victory.
