Sydney FC Powerchair started in 2010 as a foundation club for the NSWPFA Premier League run by the NSW Powerchair Football Association (NSWPFA).
Key Achievements since 2010:
- 2014 Sydney FC recognise Sydney FC Powerchair as a part of the Sydney FC community.
- 2014 Dean Crane was named the team’s first captain.
- 2015 Sydney FC Powerchair claim their NSWPFA Premier League title.
- 2015 Sydney FC Powerchair mourn the passing of inaugural captain Dean Crane.
- 2017 A strong recruitment drive sees Sydney FC Powerchair finish third in the NSWPFA Premier League.
- 2018 Sydney FC finish second in the NSWPFA Premier League.
- 2019 Sydney FC Powerchair win the Australian Powerchair Club Championships APFA.
- 2019 Sydney FC Powerchair win the NSWPFA Premier League title as undefeated Premiers.
- 2021 Sydney FC Powerchair introduce both a reserve grade and first grade team for the NSWPFA competition.
Meet the team:
Jason Ryan – Coach
After standing on the side lines watching his son play the sport for the past 7 years, Jason has decided to take up the opportunity to coach the Sydney FC Powerchair Football Team. Jason has a particular interest in junior development, believing that the success of all sports lies in their ground roots, and taking the reins of a young team, littered with talent is a great opportunity. Jason is looking forward to seeing where our players can go with their game and maybe help find future Powerchair Football superstars.
Joshua Ryan – Number 2
Joshua was introduced to Powerchair Football at just 3 yrs of age and has been a passionate participant ever since. Having been mentored by some of the best players and coaches in the sport, Joshua, now 10 yrs old, is keen to show his abilities in the Premier League competition. After getting the Runners Up trophy representing Central Coast Mariners in the last National Championships and then being part of the successful Hills United organisation in 2021, Joshua is hoping a move to Sydney FC will help him gain more experience. Joshua would eventually like to represent Australia in the sport that he loves.
Shannon Anlezark – Number 3
Shannon is aged 13 and is in Year 8 at high school. This is Shannon’s fourth year playing with Sydney FC and he currently plays in two team’ s Reserve Grade Team and Powerchair League. He enjoys playing each week and loves the competition of playing against other teams and enjoys playing in a team sport each week. Before joining Sydney FC, he played in Juniors from a very young age of 7. His goals are to improve his skills each week with training and support from his team, coaches, and teammates. He was really happy to have been asked 4 years ago to join the Sydney FC team.
Riley Brown – Number 4
Riley is 10 years old and has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. He is fairly new to the world of Powerchair Football playing his first full season in 2021. Powerchair Football has given Riley the opportunity to take part in a team sport for the first time and meet other young people who also use a power wheelchair. His highlights so far are scoring his first ever goal and being part of the team that won the 2021 season. Riley is looking forward to playing for and representing Sydney FC in this year’s competition.
Harry Simmons – Number 6
After attending a development session, Harry began playing Reserve Grade in 2019. He attended the Canberra weekend at the AIS with the Junior players in 2020 before COVID interrupted the 2020 season. Harry joined Sydney FC in 2021. Harry is looking forward to the 2022 season and developing as a goalie.
Marthy Anax – Number 7
Marthy is 8 years old and attends Yr 2 at Dural Public School. Marthy’s first experienced the sport by attending the open development sessions, as she wanted to be part of a team sport. Sydney FC were so impressed that they asked her to join the team as a development player. She hopes to be able to learn new skills every week with the help of her coaches and team members.
Daniel O’Brien – Number 10
Daniel began playing Powerchair Football when he was 5 years old as part of the development squad and he has not looked back. He has always enjoyed the competition and comradery of being part of a team. He has played several seasons with Western Sydney Wanderers as a division 2 player and division 1 player. He is looking forward to expanding his skill set with Sydney FC. Daniel has his mind set on representing NSW and Australia one day. His ultimate dream would be to represent Australia at a demonstration game as part of the Paralympics in Brisbane in 2032.
Fletcher Ball – Number 11
Fletcher first had a taste of Powerchair Football when he was 4 and was immediately hooked. He debuted with Sydney FC Reserve Grade in 2021 aged 9. Fletcher’s goal of playing for Australia one day is never far from his mind.
Mitchell Albert – Number 15
Mitch was introduced to the “Juniors” Development team in 2015 and was hooked on powerchair football. In 2016 at the age of 9 was asked to join Sydney FC Powerchair Premier team as a reserve and continued playing in Division 2. Mitch has his sights set on representing NSW and Australia one day. Mitchell was a part of the 2019 undefeated NSFWA season Sydney FC team and the 2018 runners up team in the same competition. He is a winner of NSWPFA Division 2 MVP, Best & Fairest and Most Assist awards.
Cameron Moody – Number 16
Cameron is 36 years old and his making his debut this season with Sydney FC.
