Youth International Round Up

Over the last week a number of Sydney FC players from the first team through to the Academy have been in action for their national team sides which has taken them from China to Europe and beyond. Also, a few are on their way to play more matches.

Tyler Williams was named as a substitute in the opening match for the U18’s who are currently in Europe for the UEFA Friendship Cup when they took on Argentina on Sunday night.

Their next task will be the French U18s who they will verse on Wednesday night.

Australian U18s in Switzerland

Zac De Jesus, Gus Hoefsloot, Wataru Kamijo, Tiago Quintal & Rhys Youlley have all left the country for Argentina as they begin their preparations for the FIFA U20 World Cup which will be held in Chile later this year.

They will take on Argentina in a two match series who they will face during the Group Stage of the tournament alongside Cuba & Italy in September & October.

Also, two Sydney FC Academy players have been in action for the U16 Socceroos who are currently in China as part of the Hohhot International Tournament with Corey Da Cruz & Aston Reid representing the Sky Blues from afar.

The Joeys have played three matches as part of the tournament, winning two and losing the third to the hosts. A 2-1 come from behind victory over Vietnam with Reid starting opened the campaign followed by a Corey Da Cruz finish in a 2-1 triumph over Saudi Arabia. They unfortunately fell to China 5-2 last night in the final match.

U16 Socceroos before the clash

Malik Amin who usually plays with the U20s at Sydney FC has been called up the U21 Maltese side and they will take on San Marino in a two match friendly series beginning on Wednesday & ending on Saturday night local time.

This is the first time that Amin has been called up to the Maltese U21 side and he will be looking to continue his good form with them.

Finally, Ethan Dyer who usually plays Sydney FC U20s has been playing with the New Zealand U16s for their FIFA Youth Series Tournament which has just concluded in Zurich, Switzerland.

Dyer captained his side in all three matches and the Kiwi’s got up 3-2 against the hosts in the opening game with the central defender scoring the second goal of the afternoon. They then backed that up with a 2-1 victory over Guatemala to top the three team group.

Unfortunately they fell 3-0 to Paraguay in the final with the South Americans scoring two late goals as New Zealand pushed on for an equaliser.
