Wood ready to repay the faith

Pat Wood has scored 14 goals across his Sydney FC career and he has a habit of finding the net against one team more than other.

Thankfully for him, that team happens to be Macarthur and he is set to line up against them at Allianz Stadium on Saturday night.

However, the young forward can’t quite put his finger onto why he enjoys scoring against the Bulls.

Pat Wood scoring against Macarthur last season

“I’m not sure what it is playing against Macarthur. Goals just seem to come to me and I love that.

“I look forward to playing this match, so hopefully I can get one against them at home,” he added.

“I had a good run of scoring in the cup, four in five games, but obviously our start to the season wasn’t great and we didn’t score any.

“But Uffy’s come in and we’e won two of the first three and hopefully we can start moving forward now.”

For the first time since the Brazilian’s arrival, Pat Wood started alongside Fabio in last Saturday’s 3-2 victory over Perth Glory and he enjoys having the option of playing alongside a second striker.

“Fabio is a lot bigger boy than I am so he holds the ball up really well and flicks it onto me who is more of a running behind sorta player.

“Having these two attributes up top together, [we] will definitely help each other out,” Wood said.

However, the 21-year-old believes now is his time to prove himself.

I had to wait my time behind a lot of quality strikers at this club.

“[Him starting me], puts a lot of faith in me and hopefully I can repay that to him this week with a couple of goals.”

A headline battle in the midfield will be the match-up between the two Hollman brothers who will lock horns for the first time together, but Wood backs his team-mate to come out on top.

“I’m good mates with Jake and he is a quality player who has been scoring lately.

“However Corey is a menace. He’s so good, so it will be a good contest.

“My money’s on us to come out on top,” he joked.

Catch Pat Wood and the rest of the boys this Saturday at Allianz Stadium.
