Sydney FC defender Nathan Sherlock believes victory over the A-League-s number one side would be just the catalyst the Sky Blues need to turn their season around.

The reigning Premiers Plate holders and team currently sitting at the top of the A-League ladder visit the Allianz Stadium on Thursday night but Sherlock remains bullish going into the clash.

“The Mariners are top of the table and playing great football so there is no better time for us to knock off top spot and get our season back on track,” said the defender.

“If we can knock off first place then that gives us every confidence for the week after that to turn on the lights again against Adelaide who are also top of the table.

“If we string two or three games together then before we know it we-re back in semi-final football and playing good stuff and the confidence is back again.”

Sherlock made his first appearance since undergoing groin surgery in the off season when he replaced Fabio as a second half substitute against the Newcastle Jets on Sunday, and felt good returning to first team duty.

“I felt comfortable. I was told to get warmed up at half time and obviously there was a change to be made, so I just tried to go out there as confident as I could and play my part for the team.”

Sydney FC’s next home game should be a Christmas Cracker. Another derby against local rivals Central Coast Mariners over the holiday period on December 27th. Get your tickets now from Ticketek and enjoy some sizzling A-League Summer Football!!!
