Wilkshire: We Could’ve Won By More

Sydney FC right-sided defender Luke Wilkshire believes the Sky Blues should’ve defeated Perth Glory by more than just 2-0 in their Hyundai A-League clash on Friday night.

The match, which kicked off Round 4 of the weekend action, saw the home side almost totally dominate visitor Perth but up until stoppage time, the result was only 1-0 to the hosts.

Visitors’ keeper Liam Reddy was outstanding, making seven saves and was made to face three penalties (one  smashed onto the bar by Bobo in the first half).

No goalkeeper has recorded more stops in a single A-League match so far in this current campaign.

“The way we performed in the first half we could’ve been up more than just the one [goal],” Wilkshire told Fox Sports.

“Myself missing a couple of chances there. I don’t score many so when I get those kinds of opportunities I like to put them away.

“But we had some good movements and good chances and we had a clean sheet at home and we’re still unbeaten in the league.”

The former Caltex Socceroo was brought in by Graham Arnold as a replacement for long-term injured Rhyan Grant.

After a long and distinguished career in Europe, the veteran is enjoying it back home.

“I’m loving it. Everyone thought I’d died back in 2014 but I was still playing my football at a higher level than people realised. I’m enjoying it and really enjoying my life back here.”
