Wilko Delighted With Fixtures

Sydney FC Captain Alex Wilkinson says he can’t wait for the season to start following the revealing of the Isuzu-UTE A-League 2022-23 fixtures.

Wilkinson is one of the few players remaining who played in the very first A-League season but he says he’s ready to go more than ever following the announcement.

“It’s exciting, the first game of the season at home to open the season against Melbourne Victory at the new stadium is going to be huge.

“Then we go away to face the Champions Western United and that’s another great challenge.

“We’ve got the derby against Western Sydney Wanderers just before the World Cup which I can’t wait for as well,” he continued.

“Victory have signed Nani and had a good season last year while we’ve been away from Allianz Stadium for four years so we should get a good crowd for that.

“When I began my career at Sydney FC those games at Allianz Stadium were always fiery affairs.”

The long serving skipper and Socceroo stalwart also believes the draw is a real win for players and Members alike.

“It’s looking a lot more friendly this year for the players and not as hectic. It will be nice to get back to playing games mostly once a week, and a more relaxed schedule is good.

“It’s also nice to play one home and one away in a consistent nature throughout the season which is great for the fans.

“It’s not good to have three games at home over a short period of time like we did over the last couple of seasons, as that doesn’t help the fans get along to all those games.

“We’ve also got quite a few games which are at family friendly times this year so it will be great for the families to come out and watch us on a Sunday afternoon.

“And it’s great to see us play Victory and Wanderers three times each with two of those at home.”
