Wilkinson on disruptive break and Roar Cup clash

Sydney FC Captain Alex Wilkinson and his side are looking forward to putting the last couple of weeks behind them as they prepare to continue their strong form in the FFA Cup Quarter Final Clash against Brisbane Roar tomorrow night at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium.

Wilkinson admits that it’s been hard over the past few weeks as Sydney FC has dealt with numerous postponements and Covid-19 cases within the squad but the central defender is excited to get back out on the field tomorrow night against the Roar.

“It’s good to get everyone back into training, we’ve had a couple of days where everyone has been together again which is good. We had a few guys get struck down with Covid and had to be in isolation for at least seven days but it’s nice to now have everyone in the clear and get back to playing games.”

“I think for a few of the players that had Covid it knocked them around quite a bit. A few of the players that couldn’t come into training had exercise bikes and weights that they could use at home.”

“Everyone managed to do a bit of training on their own but we’ve been carefully eased back into training and we’re looking forward to playing on Wednesday night.”

“There’s a spot in the semi-final up for grabs tomorrow night. Before the start of the season, we spoke as a team and one of our goals was to win the FFA Cup and this is another step on the path for us to that goal.”

“This game presents a great opportunity for us to get more momentum. In our last game, we ended on a bit of a high and we thought it was the best we had played together as a team for this season so we’re looking to continue that form and I think another good result will go a long way for us.”

“We love playing at our home ground. It’s nice to have the quarter-final game in front of our home fans so hopefully, we can get a strong turnout to help us towards getting into the next round.”
