In our ‘Where Are They Now’ series we’ll be taking a look back at some of our past players and hearing from them as they provide an update on what they’re up to these days.
This week, we heard from former Sky Blue midfielder Brett Emerton as he hosted a live Facebook chat on Friday night.
Emerton joined the Sky Blues in 2011, fresh from his time with English Premier League outfit Blackburn Rovers, returning to Australia after plying his trade overseas for the previous 11 years.
A Socceroos stalwart, Emerton was immediately bestowed with the Vice Captaincy and became an integral cog in Sydney FC’s midfield.
Emerton guided the Sky Blues through two tough seasons, endearing himself to the club’s faithful through his strong performances before persistent back injuries took their toll and he announced his retirement from the game in 2014.
In total, Emerton appeared 57 times for the Sky Blues in the Hyundai A-League, scoring seven goals.
Hear from Brett Emerton:
“I’m still involved in football, I’ve got two young boys playing for Macarthur Rams so I’m now coaching with the Juniors there, the SAP program.
“I’m really working with the young kids and giving back to Australian football.”
