We’ve Got The Wood Over Them – Redmayne

Sydney FC shotstopper Andrew Redmayne believes the Sky Blues have the ‘wood’ over their crosstown rivals following their latest #SydneyDerby triumph in Saturday’s FFA Cup Semi-Final.

Redmayne put in a man of the match performance to deny the Wanderers in the first half, before the Sky Blues second half onslaught ensured a third consecutive Final appearance, and Redmayne heralded his team’s resolve.

“As footballers you want to win every game. We understand how much it means for the fans and we thoroughly enjoy moments like these,” Redmayne said.

“We enjoyed it, we’ve really got the wood on them I guess.

“I think we were under a bit of pressure but that’s football. It was the old cliché of a game of two halves and I think we dealt with the pressure in the first half and put them under pressure in the second.

“I think we executed for 90 minutes, the first half defensively we were pretty solid and we were good in the right moments.

“There’s going to be times when you’re under pressure and all the boys stood up. Wilko, Jop, the whole backline, two sixes, they were great defensively. We held firm.”

Redmayne said the squad relish being rated as “the best”, and with three of the club’s new recruits on the scoreboard, the glovesman said the future is looking bright ahead of the 2018/19 season kicking off.

“The Sky’s the limit,” Redmayne said.

“The recruitment Sydney FC do is I think the best in the league. You look at the boys we’ve brought in, they’ll just continue to get better and better once they learn from each other and the squad as a collective learn the movements and passes they like.

“[Saturday] is another step forward but we’ve still got a lot of improvement left in us and we’ll continue to make that.

“It’s just a fantastic group of boys, fantastic belief in the change room, we just go in to every game believing that we’re going to win it,” he continued.

“We work for each other and know we’ve got our mates back no matter what happens.

“It’s the same approach for every game, we know we’re Sydney FC and every team wants to beat us. I think that’s been proven in the FFA Cup, everyone plays their best against us, that’s a target we relish, we want to be the best.”
