Sydney FC Women are gearing up for a top-of-the-table clash against Melbourne City this weekend at Allianz Stadium. The game will be part of a Doubleheader with the Men, making it an exciting day for both the players and the fans.
Madison Haley believes the team are confident after a big win against Melbourne Victory and have had a good week of training.
“We’re ready for it,” she said. “We’ve done really well this season, and a lot of expectation is there when we wear this badge, but I’m ready to take on that pressure and keep going.”
When asked about the competition with Melbourne City, Madison said, “I don’t think very much separates us to be honest. It’s going to be a very entertaining match, and I think it’s going to be a really good matchup.”
Despite growing up in the US, Madison is aware of the history between Sydney FC and Melbourne City, but she doesn’t let it affect her.
“They’re just an opponent, and I’m obviously going to try to win and do everything I can for Sydney,” she said.
With Melbourne City playing a 3-5-2 formation, Ante Juric’s team plan to make some tactical adjustments against Melbourne City, however, they won’t fundamentally change their style.
“We believe in what we do in our style,” Haley explained. “So we’ll continue to do what we do best and then obviously make the necessary adjustments that we see fit.”
Madi is also proud of the team’s performance this season and excited about playing at Allianz Stadium.
“It’s always exciting for us when we get to have a doubleheader with the men and it’s also exciting for the fans to get 180 minutes of soccer,” she said.
