Sydney FC midfielder Brett Emerton says the club are concentrating on the future rather than past results as the Sky Blues prepare to face the Newcastle Jets at Allianz Stadium on Saturday (kick off 7:45pm).
The Sky Blues ran out comfortable 2-0 winners in their round one clash with the Jets earlier this season but Emerton says he has expunged that result from his mind.
“We-re looking up rather than behind us,” he said.
“It-s in the past well and truly [the round 1 win].
“I think both teams have really come along in leaps and bounds since then so it-s going to be a different proposition for us,” he continued.
“It-s going to be an interesting one because both teams are in good form and going to come here very confident so hopefully we see a good entertaining game of football.”
Sydney FC is looking to increase its winning streak to four and Emerton has said the positive vibe in training has changed the mood.
“I think everyone has been on a high since the win at Melbourne Victory.
“We want to continue riding that wave. We-re confident we can come out here and hopefully get another three points and keep the momentum going.
“After a slow start some people had written us off. We were standing here a month ago and it was all doom and gloom but all credit to the coaching staff and the players we-ve all stuck together, we-re a close knit group and we-re working hard to make sure we-re successful this year.
“We-ve set ourselves up nicely but were not even a third of the way through the season so there-s a lot of hard work still to do.”
