Sydney FC defender Matt Jurman has said the Sky Blues “must win for the fans” ahead of their back to back games at Allianz Stadium, starting this Saturday against Wellington Phoenix (ko 5:30pm).
Jurman, who made his first appearance this season in the victory over Melbourne Heart, feels the squad-s confidence has been bolstered by their recent success and is targeting more of the same against the Phoenix and the Newcastle Jets the following week.
“Every game we want to win,” Jurman said.
“But you have to look at the home games and they-re the ones you have to win, especially in front of our home crowd. They are passionate fans so we have to win for them.
“Being at a big club like Sydney FC they demand results on and off the field and the fans are a part of that. Every week they demand wins and so do we,” he continued.
“Two wins on the trot was a big confidence boost to us and these two games at home are going to be really important to us, so hopefully we can take the confidence and get two wins.”
The Sky Blues will be looking to build momentum against a Wellington Phoenix side who have won only one of their last eight away trips to Sydney, and Jurman believes that winning both home games will set the scene for a successful season for Sydney FC.
“It-s pretty funny how the league is,” he said.
“We were down the bottom a couple of weeks ago and now after a couple of wins you-re straight back up there. It-s a long season and if we get two wins here it will put us in good stead for the next couple of months.”
Jurman is also hoping to see plenty of moustache-s in the crowd as Sydney FC and StarTrack have combined to set up a dedicated Movember bay for any Sky Blues fans participating in Movember.
Bay 32 will be reserved for anyone wishing to show off their Movember growth with 100 free sky blue wigs also available so that the cameras don-t miss anyone.
“My Mo isn-t too bad,” said Jurman.
“It-s a good cause and hopefully a lot of people come out and support us with their Mo-s.
“There are a lot of boys doing it in the team and hopefully they take example from us.”
