Sydney FC marquee Marc Janko has praised the spirit within the Sky Blues camp as he gets set to face the Central Coast Mariners at Allianz Stadium on Saturday (kick off 5pm).
Playing as a target man, Janko relies on his team mates to score, and after breaking his home goal duck at the weekend the Austrian is hoping for further success as he labelled the Sky Blues as one of the best teams in the competition.
“I’m only as good as long as the team is performing well and at the moment we’re on a high level,” he said.
“I’m very happy with the guys, the team is working very well together and combined with that we have a great team spirit.
“The boys know me quite well now and know which kinds of balls I like to have and I’m only as good as the team is,” he continued.
“From my point of view I think we can compete with the best teams, we are one of the best teams, and I think we will be in the race for the title.”
After scoring a brace against the Mariners in the Sky Blues 5-1 rout during their previous encounter, Janko is expecting a Mariners side out to avenge that defeat as Sydney FC go in search of their third win in a row against the Gosford club, a feat that hasn’t been achieved since 2008.
“Consistency is the key message for this game,” he said.
“We proved that we can beat them quite high but I think they will do everything they can to recover from that defeat so I think it will be quite a difficult game for us.
“I’m expecting that it will be a tough match, they will do everything to prove that they are still a good team.
“There is not one game where you can say it’s a clear win for us, you have to fight for the points this season. You can see that the top teams are only a few points difference so it’s quite a tight race,” he continued.
“We definitely owe our home fans, they deserve a victory since our last few games and I hope next game we can please them.”
